I have no idea how they do it but they manage. I went from Australia to Italy. We changed planes at Hong Kong. At Sydney airport we marked our bags for Italy. They were there when we arrived. I guess mistakes can happen which is why you hear of people having their luggage lost. I suggest you carry underwear and a few essentials in your carry on luggage just in case.
